The best way to learn sailing firmly remains practice. For younger students, aged 8-14, this can be done perfectly on our optimist boats. This lightweight dinghy with a single sail responds sharply to all conditions, such as the wind or rudder movement, making it perfect for feeling directly how the boat responds to certain changes. Despite this, it remains very simple to operate, great for younger students all over the world to start with. The younger the age you start sailing, the more familiar you become with the water.
Optimist boats are simple to transport on the roof of almost any car, safe and simple enough fo an 8-year-old, yet exciting and technical enough for a 15-year-old. Sailed in over 110 countries, by over 150,000 young sailors, it remains the only dinghy approved by the international Sailing Federation exclusively for children under 16 years of age. At the last Olympic Games, over half of the dinghy skippers, who took part are former optimist sailors.
Our course is designed for those who want to:-Get their children familiar with the sailboat and various sea conditions.
-Introduce those up to 14 years of age to operating the Optimist
-Make them understand their basic terminology and appropriate decision-making, such as luffing up, bearing away, tacking, sailing in all directions, capsize recovery techniques as well as any other essential safety knowledge, preparing and hoisting sails, the role of the helmsman, appropriate dismemberment of the boat and its sails, their storage and maintenance.
